About Pamela
I am passionate about helping people understand, process and grow from circumstances that have led them to feel less than their authentic selves. I am here to listen, support and challenge you in a nonjudgmental, safe and empathetic space.
Many people seek counselling because they are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem or relationship problems. While I will work with you to recognize, process and manage unhealthy emotions and thoughts, I will gently guide you to uncover deeper issues that may be underlying. I believe that the problems that we see on the surface are often present because underneath, there lies deep pain from attachment wounds and/or traumatic experiences. Although we cannot go back to change what has happened to us, together, we can revisit the past and change the story we tell ourselves.
I approach each client with a holistic perspective taking into consideration one’s mind, body and spirit. My practice is also grounded in trauma-focused and attachment focused therapeutic processes.
Trauma Therapy
Whether your trauma was one incident, repeated incidents or qualifies as complex trauma, the effects can be long lasting and profoundly impact your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. I am trained in evidenced-based trauma therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) and EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy). I have been using these therapies for years to help people recover.
Couples Counselling
A healthier relationship is possible. I will work with you to gain new skills to improve your communication and friendship, manage your conflicts, and create shared meaning. I will also help bring understanding and bring change to unhelpful patterns that keep you stuck in negative cycles. I am trained in the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
I also offer premarital counselling which can be tailored to your particular needs.
Body-based Therapy
TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) assists the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. It is a body based process that allows you to discharge tension from the body which often does not require verbal processing of the traumatic experience.
Talking Therapy
Sometimes, you need someone to talk to and help you process what you are feeling and what is going on in your life. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, work-related issues, relationship issues or emotional problems, I am here to listen, work with you to deepen your insight and find a way forward.
A bit more about Pamela
-
I am a native Vancouverite and my favourite spot in the city is the beach at Spanish Banks where a few minutes sitting on a log and gazing at the scenery brings refreshment to my soul. Having lived as an expatriate in Asia for more than 20 years, I have gained a deeper understanding of and appreciation for various cultures. I was forever enriched by the diverse populations, environments, customs, and belief systems I experienced.
I spent my earlier career in the corporate world where I interfaced with business executives from around the world. While I always enjoyed working in people-oriented roles, I realized that over time, I craved more meaningful work. In 2013, I made the decision to return to school to become a clinical counsellor, finally fulfilling a longtime dream.
In 2020, I returned to Vancouver with my husband and children and am now practicing in the Kitsilano area of the city. I love helping my clients walk through their tough times as they gain insight, strength and resilience. There is no other work I would rather be doing.
My training includes:
TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) – TRE, LLC, Certified Provider – 2017
The Gottman Method for Couples – The Gottman Institute, Level 1 and 2 – 2017
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) – Parnell Institute for EMDR, Basic Training Parts 1, 2 and 3 – 2019
Emotionally Focused Therapy – Vancouver Centre for Emotionally Focused Therapy, Externship – 2024
Certified Dialectical Behavioural Therapy – PESI Canada – 2025
I also incorporate aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique and other modalities as appropriate.
For those who choose, I integrate a Christian faith perspective into my counselling.
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia, I am also a registered mental health provider with FNHA.
